Mervin Ling 從獨立製錶看 CHANEL：在美學與工藝之間，走出自己的路
CHANEL 的高級製錶故事，從來不只停留在「時尚品牌做錶」的既定印象。真正值得探究的，是品牌如何以鮮明美學為起點，逐步建立材質、機芯、工藝與獨立製錶夥伴關係，讓腕錶不只是品牌符號的延伸，而是成為具備專業製錶深度與清晰創作觀點的作品。
這次我們邀請香港鐘錶愛好者、專欄作家，同時也是 @fpjourne.collectors.club 創辦人 Mervin Ling，從藏家與獨立製錶的角度，重新觀看 CHANEL 的製錶歷程。Mervin 過去的收藏觀點，一直重視設計、比例、佩戴感，以及腕錶與個人生活經驗之間的連結；也因此，他看待 CHANEL 的方式，不只停留在品牌知名度或市場熱度，而是更關注一只腕錶如何透過美學、工藝與佩戴經驗，建立長久的收藏價值。

Q: 在您的觀察中，是從哪個時間點、或是因為哪款作品，讓您開始認真地將CHANEL視為一個專業製錶品牌？
對我來說，真正的轉折點是CHANEL從單純做「時尚錶」，跨足到研發自製機芯的那一刻，特別是Monsieur de CHANEL和它搭載的 Caliber 1。那是我第一次感覺到，CHANEL不再只是在設計漂亮的錶殼，而是真的在技術層面上與高級製錶接軌了。
For me, the turning point was when CHANEL moved from “fashion watch” to creating its own calibres, especially with the Monsieur de CHANEL and the Caliber 1. That was the moment I felt CHANEL was no longer just designing beautiful cases, but was genuinely engaging with high horology on a technical level.

Q: 從2011年入股Romain Gauthier、2018 年入股F.P. Journe，到 2024 年入股 MB&F，CHANEL始終維持「品牌獨立經營」的策略。從腕錶收藏家角度看，這種模式對獨立製錶生態及香奈兒自身的工藝內涵有什麼意義？
從藏家角度來看，這是一種非常健康的模式。它為獨立品牌提供了穩定的財務挹注和技術資源的支持，同時又讓這些品牌能保有創作自由和自我個性。對CHANEL來說，這讓他們能接觸到頂尖的專業工藝，在製錶界最受推崇的領域站穩腳跟。他們不是在收購和吞併品牌，而是把自己定位為傑出獨立製錶工藝的「推動者」與「策展人」，這反過來也大幅提昇了CHANEL自家高級製錶系列的公信力。
From a collector's perspective, this model is very healthy for them. It provides financial stability and industrial support to the independents, while allowing the brands to preserve their creative independence and unique identity. At the same time, it gives CHANEL access to top-tier know-how and a serious presence in the most respected segment of watchmaking. Rather than buying and absorbing brands, CHANEL is positioning itself as an enabler and curator of independent excellence which in turn reinforces the credibility of its own high watchmaking line.
Q: Romain Gauthier為Caliber 1供應了高達八成的精密零件，CHANEL也與 F.P. Journe 合作開發藝術面盤。您如何評價這種透過外部專業技術整合，來豐富自身Caliber 1到Caliber 6自製機芯發展的路徑？
我認為這是一種非常現代而且「誠實」的製錶模式。在開發Caliber 1時找Romain Gauthier合作，或是在藝術面盤上與F.P. Journe聯手，展現了CHANEL願意整合最頂尖專家技能的胸襟，而不是假裝自己已經具備完全的自製能力。對我這樣的藏家來說，這種坦率的態度非常有吸引力。它證明了CHANEL從Caliber 1到Caliber 6的每一枚機芯，都建立在紮實的瑞士專業工藝基礎上，同時又保有非常鮮明的CHANEL美學。
I see this as a very modern and honest way to build a movement. Working with Romain Gauthier for the precision components in Caliber 1, and collaborating with F.P. Journe on artistic dials, shows CHANEL's willingness to integrate the best specialist skills instead of pretending to do everything alone from day one. For collectors like myself, that transparency is attractive. It proves that CHANEL's calibres, from Caliber 1 through to Caliber 6, stand on a foundation of "serious" Swiss savoir-faire, while still expressing a very distinctive CHANEL aesthetic.
構成的Caliber 1機芯的170個零件當中，有高達8成是由ROMAIN GAUTHIER所生產的高品質零件。包括機芯橋板或齒輪條輻等零件的倒角、齒輪表面的細緻打磨修飾，甚至是寶石軸承的儲油曲面…等細節，都處理得相當完美，確保機芯細節的美感與機能的穩定。
Q: 針對CHANEL近期入股MB&F，您期待這次合作未來會為CHANEL的作品注入什麼樣的創意或機械結構突破？
MB&F的作品具備高度的創作自由度和立體的機械概念。我很期待這樣的合作能啟發CHANEL的高級製錶朝更立體、更動感的方向發展，或許是更大膽的動偶、非常規的錶殼結構，或是如何運用立體結構來營造佩戴時的視覺效果。即便兩品牌在創作上維持獨立，但想法的交流以及接觸到MB&F那種實驗性思維，絕對會鼓舞CHANEL在機械結構和敘事方式上做出更大膽的嘗試。
MB&F brings an incredible level of creative freedom and three-dimensional mechanical concept. I would expect this partnership to inspire CHANEL to push further into sculptural yet kinetic watchmaking, perhaps more daring automata, unconventional case architectures, or spatial use of volume on the wrist. Even if the two brands remain creatively separate, the cross-over of ideas and access to MB&F's experimental mindset can only encourage CHANEL to take bolder risks in both mechanics and storytelling.

The brand's design-first approach is very close with the brand's DNA. Starting from a strong visual and symbolic concept, like the camellia for Caliber 2, and then building the movement around that idea, creates watches that feel like true CHANEL objects, not just generic movements in CHANEL cases. From a traditional watchmaking standpoint it is more challenging because the technical team must solve mechanical problems in service of an artistic vision. But when executed well, it leads to calibres that are instantly recognisable, which is something collectors increasingly value.

最讓我印象深刻的是CHANEL對非傳統時間顯示和動偶機制的偏好，而不是為了複雜而複雜。Caliber 1的瞬跳小時與逆跳分鐘，以及Caliber 6的動偶元素，都展現了他們想要打造「詩意機芯」的明確意圖。此外，也可以從機芯架構中感受到一種強烈的設計紀律：俐落的橋板、精準平衡的「留白」空間，以及在不同機芯之間相同的設計語言。這種在錶背呈現出來的視覺一致性，是藏家一眼就能注意到的細節。
What stands out to me is CHANEL's focus on unconventional displays and animated mechanisms rather than just adding complications for their own sake. The jumping hours and retrograde minutes of Caliber 1 and the automaton elements in Caliber 6, show a clear intention to create poetic movements. There is also a strong design discipline in the movement architecture; clean bridges, carefully balanced negative space and a consistent design language across calibres. This visual coherence on the back of the watch is something collectors notice immediately.

The adoption of Kenissi-made movements with C.O.S.C. certification brings the J12 from “iconic fashion watch” to a genuinely robust daily-wear with high technical credibility. It upgrades the J12's precision, reliability and long-term serviceability which are crucial for everyday collectors. It also signals that the brand is serious about watchmaking; the J12 is no longer just a ceramic design statement but a fully modern sports watch that can compete with established Swiss maisons on performance as well as style.
香奈兒於2019年入股位於瑞士Le Locle的Kenissi專業機芯廠後，就具備自製基礎機芯的關鍵能力，成為新一代J12的重要基礎。
Q: 從市場趨勢來看，您怎麼看J12在2026年新增28毫米迷你尺寸與42毫米大尺寸的佈局？
這兩個新尺寸反映出CHANEL對當前配戴趨勢的敏銳觸角。28是毫米為了滿足了市場對小巧、具備珠寶錶身形的腕錶的需求；而42毫米則是為了那些追求在腕間展現更強烈、更具現代運動錶氣勢的藏家而生。透過這兩個新尺寸的加入，J12的宇宙從單一的「黃金比例」擴展成一個全方位的平台，讓品牌能在不稀釋J12性格的前提下，從尺寸與風格上展現出多樣性。
The new 28 mm and 42 mm sizes show CHANEL's sensitivity to how people actually wear watches today. The 28 mm answers the demand for truly petite, jewellery-like proportions, while the 42 mm responds to wearer who want a more assertive, contemporary sports watch presence on the wrist. Together, they expand the J12 universe from a single “sweet spot” size into a full platform. Allowing the brand to serve a wider range of wrists and lifestyles without diluting the core identity of the J12.

Q: 身為資深藏家，您如何描述CHANEL在當代高級製錶界的定位？
我認為CHANEL是當前高級製錶中最具聲望的「新世代」品牌之一。它並非要和與傳統錶廠爭論所謂的歷史傳承，而是憑藉設計文化、跨界工藝，以及與頂尖獨立製錶品牌的戰略結盟來取勝。就這點而言，CHANEL在介於高級訂製服與高級製錶之間佔有一個的獨特地位。它說著嚴謹的製錶語言，但同時擁有源自時尚與頂級珠寶的創作自由度與整體感。
I would describe CHANEL as one of the most reputable “new‑generation” names in haute horology. It is not competing with the old maisons on heritage but on design culture, cross-disciplinary craftsmanship and partnerships with the best independents. In that sense, CHANEL occupies a unique position between haute couture and haute horlogerie. It speaks the language of serious watchmaking but with a creative freedom and coherence that come from fashion and high jewellery.
Q: 想開始接觸CHANEL的藏家，您會建議從哪款入門？
對於新接觸CHANEL製錶的朋友，我建議可以從兩個切入點開始。在高級複雜功能這端，搭載Caliber 1的Monsieur de CHANEL清晰的表達了CHANEL的製錶技術與美感哲學。如果是追求日常實戴，搭載Kenissi機芯的J12則是理想之選。這能讓你親自體會CHANEL在材質上的創新以及日常使用的穩定性，同時它強烈的設計DNA也能讓你與品牌的宏大世界觀產生直接的連結。
For someone new to CHANEL watchmaking, I would suggest starting with two entry points. On the high horology side, the Monsieur de CHANEL with Caliber 1 is the clearest expression of CHANEL's technical and aesthetic philosophy. On the more accessible side, a J12 equipped with the Kenissi-based Caliber is ideal. It lets you experience CHANEL's material innovation and everyday reliability, while still carrying a strong design identity that links back to the brand's broader universe.

我相信 Monsieur de CHANEL 絕對會是未來的經典之作，因為它標誌著品牌真正踏入專業自製機芯的領域，且具備非常獨特的時間顯示方式。此外，像Caliber 2這種極具雕塑感的機芯，憑藉其山茶花鏤空設計也極具潛力，因為這類設計辨識度極高，絕對不會被誤認為其他品牌。在J12系列中，換裝Kenissi天文台機芯的J12 Bleu（藍色高抗磨陶瓷）款式，特別是那些比例最均衡的殼型，很可能成為時尚品牌成功轉型為專業製錶商的標竿之作。
I believe the Monsieur de CHANEL will be seen as a future classic, as it marked the brand's real entry into serious in-house watchmaking and has a very distinctive display. The more sculptural calibres like Caliber 2, with its camellia skeletonisation, also have strong potential because they are impossible to mistake for any other brand. Within the J12 line, the J12 Bleu ceramic models with Kenissi chronometer movements, especially in the most balanced case sizes, are likely to become reference points for how fashion houses can successfully evolve into legitimate watchmakers.
